National Folk Festival

With more than 200 international and national acts across the Easter weekend, Canberra’s award-winning National Folk Festival is a five-day celebration of music, song and dance plus circus, spoken word and film. It’s held in the village setting of Exhibition Park with roving entertainers, a street circus, special KidzFest zone, market stalls, food vans, themed bars and arts and craft activities for all.

Canberra Handmade

Canberra’s Handmade Market is a quarterly event, showcasing works by more than 260 talented Australian artists, designers, stylists, craftspeople and gourmets. The wares for sale range from fashion, furniture, sculpture and ceramics, to children’s toys and clothing, jewellery and food and wine. The Christmas Handmade Market will be open from 5pm to 9pm on the Friday evening and 10am to 4pm on the weekend at EPIC (Exhibition Park in Canberra).

Contour 556

Oct 21 – Nov 13

Kicking off this October is the launch of a new public arts festival, Contour 556. Featuring the works of 50 local, national and international artists, the concept will reflect the relationship between artworks and space. Expect to see artworks, performances, sound installations, music and digital projections all in reference to Canberra’s history. The pieces will be on display on the Lake Burley Griffin foreshore, the National Library of Australia and the National Gallery of Australia’s Sculpture Garden.

Queensland Ballet’s The Nutcracker

Nov 23-27

The Nutcracker is one of the world’s most beloved ballets and is being brought to the national capital by the Queensland Ballet. This is the first time in 55 years that the ballet company will perform The Nutcracker in Canberra. Award-winning designer Desmond Heeley and set designer Thomas Boyd have come together to bring the audience spectacular costume designs and sets for an unforgettable show.
