Amazing designs and performances were features of the Sheepvention Fashion Parade, one of the highlights of the annual sheep show held at Hamilton in Victoria’s Southern Grampians. Every year the show encourages the use of wool in fashion design with a Young Designer Fashion competition in which the winner receives a $10,500 Handbury Scholarship for the Instituto Marangoni in Milan.
The cocktail-style event followed an enchanted forest theme and had high levels of entries across all categories from fantasy and race wear to corporate and sportswear. Judges and designers, Wendy Voon and Robyn Black were impressed by the talent and creativity of the young designer garments. Hamilton local Jemma Saunders took first place for corporate wear as well as winning the Australasian Young Designer Wool Ward Handbury Scholarship.
Jessica Lawrence claimed first place for the fantasy section of the awards while evening wear was won by Petar Prodanovic. Diana Nguyen received first place for sportswear and Edi Carlos De Oliveira placed second. The magical evening was topped off by a grand illusionist as an exclusive performance for the show.
